Premier Doug Ford attends Wiarton Willie Festival, tours hospital and Grey Gables in Markdale

OWEN SOUND – Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker was happy to welcome Ontario Premier Doug Ford to his riding on Saturday, February 2.
Premier Ford participated in the 63rd annual Wiarton Willie Festival, becoming the first Premier of Ontario to attend the big event. The huge crowd at the Festival cheered when Willie did not see his shadow and predicted an early spring.
“I was honoured to take part in this fantastic festival, which is a great opportunity to bring the community together for some family-friendly fun,” said Ford.
Walker said Premier Ford’s attendance at the festival was a wonderful moment for the entire community.
“Without a shadow of doubt, I was thrilled to have Premier Ford join my constituents and people from across the province, country and world for the famous Wiarton Willie Festival,” he said. “The festival on Groundhog Day is a long-standing tradition that truly exemplifies the charm of the Wiarton community.”
Following the Festival, Premier Ford visited Markdale and toured the Markdale Hospital and Grey Gables long-term care centre. The Premier met with hospital staff and discussed plans for a new hospital facility in the community. Ford also met with staff and residents at Grey Gables and discussed future plans for the facility.
“I want to thank everybody at Markdale Hospital and Grey Gables for doing a great job during the Premier’s visit,” said Walker. “Staff at both facilities brought the Premier up-to-date about the importance of both the hospital and Grey Gables to our community.”
