Auditor’s pre-election report provides more proof government is cooking the books

QUEEN’S PARK – A week after Moody’s Investors Service downgraded Ontario’s credit outlook, the provincial Auditor General followed suit with her warning that the government’s budget numbers simply don’t add up.

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says the Report found that Ontario’s deficit is almost double than what the governing Liberals are claiming, pegging it at a whopping $11.7 billion.

“This is just the latest proof of why Kathleen Wynne can’t be trusted to put Ontario back on track. In the lead up to the June election, they are, sadly, cooking the books and will say, promise and do anything to cling to power,” Walker says.

“Their shady accounting scheme is a source of affliction, but it also shows they’re desperately trying to cling to power,” he says. “My worry is that they have no strategy other than to grow the debt so big no one will want to lend to us anymore and interest payments on debt that will eat up more tax dollars and more core public services.”

Walker says his constituents want to have the straight goods about where their tax money is being spent.

“Ontarian have had enough. This is why we have committed to a full audit of the government’s books and we will restore responsibility, accountability, and trust in government,” says Walker.
