$47,500 OTF Seed Grant Helps New Eco-Adventures Take Root and Grow

Lion’s Head – On Saturday evening, members of the public gathered at the Peninsula Observation Deck to enjoy the Northern Bruce Peninsula’s exceptionally Dark Sky and to participate in the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association’s Bayside Astronomy Program.  Local MPP Bill Walker joined in with the event and officially congratulated the Association on receiving a $47,500 Seed grant, thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation, for its new Wilderness Eco-Adventures program.

“I am proud to present this OTF grant and to know that funding that will help improve the public awareness of the amazing biodiversity of habitat in our area, and ultimately, help preserve and protect these very important features, while promoting people to be active outdoors in all seasons.”

Wilderness EcoAdventures is a four seasons program designed to strengthen people's understanding and commitment to environmental conservation while participating in favourite outdoor activities like hiking, biking, paddling or snowshoeing. Funds from the grant will be used to help with staffing, marketing and some administrative costs.

“In 2010, the Ontario Trillium Foundation supported the Biosphere Association to build community awareness of why and how to use dark sky friendly lighting fixtures to keep our skies dark thus protecting wildlife, saving energy and ensuring we can enjoy the wonders of a star-studded sky. Today, we are delighted with the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s support for our new Wilderness Eco-Adventures program. Through this program we will strive to deepen people’s understanding of the Northern Bruce Peninsula’s remarkable biodiversity and stimulate a desire to preserve it. We have one of the highest concentration of rare species in all of Canada. We need the public’s help to protect them and the habitats they depend upon. Come play, learn and make a difference."
