$114,100 Ontario Trillium Foundation Community Grant - Free Circus Classes

Owen Sound - On Tuesday August 1, 2017, MPP Bill Walker had an opportunity to meet with young people involved with Lookup Theatre’s youth troupe and try his hand at the trapeze. The event was an opportunity for the local MPP to see how a two-year, $114,100 Grow grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation made earlier this year, is giving young people in rural communities an amazing opportunity to get involved with a circus arts program.
“I am pleased to present this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant which will enrich the lives of our youth through arts, culture and heritage, and will help build life and social skills and provide hands-on experiences. And, I was honoured to try the trapeze in person. What a fun experience!”

With the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation over the next two “action-packed” years, Lookup Theatre will operate 18 in-school, 30-hour programs, a free summer long youth performance troupe and march break camps at the Saugeen First Nation Reserve.  Funds from the grant will be used to help with staffing and some of the costs involved with operating the program, such as supplies, rentals, storage space and some administrative costs as well.
“We are very thankful for the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, as we will be able to shorten our growing wait lists for schools and participants and continue to inspire youth to be creative,” said Angola Murdoch, Artistic Director for Lookup Theatre.
Lookup Theatre’s program provides access to free, community-based arts creation programs for children and youth in Bruce-Grey County. Through its theatre and circus arts programming, it will help participants access creativity through self-expression and physical literacy. Over the past six years, the youth of Lookup theatre have delivered over 30 performances for over 10,000 community audience members. For more information on the organization, please visit:
As an agency of the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. With a budget of over $136 million, OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities.
